Music is an international language, and the music theatre wonderfully unites it with the theatrical - so whether or not you understand German, as an opera lover you will feel at home in Munich immediately. Since state theatres are subsidised by the Free State of Bavaria, they employ internationally well-known artists but sell tickets at very reasonable prices. Students, for example, can get regular tickets for the State Opera one hour before the performance for about €8, which includes performances during the famous annual opera festival. So especially if you have never been to an opera before, you should seize this opportunity!
Below are the addresses of some of Munich's music theatres. Tickets can be ordered online, but also by telephone. Please remember the prefix 089 if you are calling from outside the Munich telephone district and +49 89 if you are calling from abroad.
