Medical Conventions

Bavaria’s capital is equipped with the Munich International Congress Center, one of Germany’s most important convention centres, and is thus considered a top destination in the international convention business. Munich hosts expert conventions in the fields of anaesthetics, ophthalmic surgery, surgery, oncology, psychiatry, dermatology, HIV infections, haematology and tropical medicine. In terms of the number of attendees, the European Society of Cardiology’s convention, which drew some 25,000 attendees, as well as the annual convention of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, attended by some 15,000 participants, stood out in 2004. In 2006, some 18,000 lung specialists attended a European Respiratory Society convention, and in 2008, the world’s largest cardiologist convention will once again be held in Munich.
