International Cultural Contacts

The Department of Arts and Culture – either with its own events or through co-operations and sponsoring – strives to invite international developments in arts and culture into the city of Munich, and to promote Munich's international presence. In addition to the international activities of municipal cultural institutions, particular importance is attributed to several festivals which have gained renown far beyond the city boundaries: the "Munich Biennale" for Musical Theatre (English) is dedicated to the development and expansion of contemporary musical theatre. Developments in international contemporary theatre are reflected in the "Spielart (English) " Festival and the world of dance with its constant new impetus is mirrored in the festival "Dance (German) " and the annual programme of performances and workshops presented by "Tanzwerkstatt Europa (English)".

The (English) Villa Waldberta offers 2 to 3 months free residence and working space to scholarship fellows from all fields of the arts.

In addition, the Department of Arts and Culture organises many other events with international topics in Munich, and supports programmes initiated abroad by Munich artists which contribute to international cultural exchange, international co-operation and networking. Relevant contacts can be made via the office for "International Cultural Contacts" within the Department of Arts and Culture.

In addition, we co-ordinate and support co-operation and exchanges with Munich's partner cities (Edinburgh, Bordeaux, Verona, Kiev, Cincinnati, Harare, Sapporo) as well as with Munich's international cultural institutions.
