About Us

Our Department for the Promotion of Culture and the Arts sees itself as a spur to topics relevant to society as well as an initiator and project coordinator. Its main task is to facilitate cultural production. The chief components of municipal promotion of culture and the arts are therefore providing cultural infrastructure, supporting innovative processes in approaching issues of our cultural heritage and of the changes in the Munich society and scene. These features are all within the context of internationality, regionality and interculturality, which it is our aim to take properly into account. Our tasks are furthermore to promote respect for and tolerance towards the supposedly "unfamiliar", to support artists and creative talents active in the city - in particular among the young - with the aim of offering cultural services to a broad public.
