Equal opportunities
The employment and qualifications policy operated by the City of Munich seeks to remedy the way women are often placed at a disadvantage in all areas of the economy and on all levels of qualification. The Department of Labor and Economic Development promotes equal opportunities for girls and women through its active involvement in:

Project sponsorship
Projects run under the umbrella of the Munich Employment and Qualifications Program (MBQ) contribute to giving more equality to women and girls in education and at work. Projects are sponsored in all three program areas, e.g. for female immigrants, highly qualified women and recipients of social security. At the same time, the MBQ responds to companies' interest in providing qualifications for female employees.
One example is the "Girls in Science and Technology Agency" project at Munich's University of Applied Technology (TU), which serves to broaden the scope of career choices that are open to girls.

Details of the projects sponsored within the framework of the AFI initiative are listed in the "Guide to Municipal Job Development - 99 Projects for Munich", which you can order (in German only) from the Department of Labor and Economic Development.

Mentoring models
The Department of Labor and Economic Development initiates, supports and accompanies mentoring models that are designed to increase the proportion of women in management positions. Mentoring is a process in which one person (the mentor) assists with the career and development of another person (the mentee) outside the scope of the usual superior/employee relationship.
Launched in 2001, the Munich Cross-Mentoring Program moves into its fourth year in May 2004.

Girls´ Day
Girls' Day is a nationwide campaign whose aim is to get 5th to 10th grade schoolgirls (accompanied by their parents at their place of work) enthusiastic about technical and related occupations. The Department of Labor and Economic Development runs the Munich Girls' Day and thereby seeks to broaden the scope of career choices that are open to girls. Since 2002, it also arranged additional sponsorships between companies and schools. Information about the nationwide Girls' Day is available on the website of the Competence Center for Women in the Information Society and Technology, at www.girlsday.de (in German only).
