Objectives
The Domestic Service Cooperative aims to get unemployed German and foreign women into gainful employment (with compulsory social insurance). It also gives them the opportunity to gain occupational qualifications both at the start and in the course of their employment. The cooperative employs both trained staff and women who have completed a recognized course in domestic science. The venture was deliberately set up as a cooperative, as this means that the individual workers are both employees and entrepreneurs at the same time. This enables them to identify strongly with the organization and fosters an atmosphere of solidarity. Moreover, flexibility, openness and the ability to adapt to the needs of members identify service cooperatives as a corporate form that will play an important role in future. Each employee's working hours are based on individual agreements. Part-time and full-time employment and yearly work accounts can be arranged.

Services/activities
Skilled and unskilled services are provided for the following segments of the economy:

  • All private households that do not fall within the statutory mandate of dependent care insurance. Care class 0 can be included in this scope.
  • Practices, law firms, small commercial enterprises, small offices
  • Educational establishments etc.
The following services are provided:
  • All cleaning activities, cleaning for maintenance purposes and basic cleaning, both on a daily basis (as of 3-4 hours) and periodically
  • Food preparation
  • Care for children and senior citizens
  • Laundry service and textile cleaning
  • Shopping and errands
  • Catering and support for small family celebrations
Orders received are not usually charged by the hour but on the basis of "service packages", which can be mixed and matched in line with the customer's specific requirements.

A further goal of this project is to improve the public image of domestic service as a valid form of gainful employment by providing high-quality services, and thereby to bring about acceptance of appropriate levels of remuneration.
