The "youth job exchange" model project: project phases and information material
The project is split into three phases:

Phase 1: Regular secondary modern school
At a secondary modern school in Munich, career preparation projects were conducted and individual support was provided. The program included one-on-one advice and career preparation campaigns. The aim was to ensure that no pupil left the school without a clear career perspective.

One subset of the project – "Placement assistance: help with applications" – provides assistance to young people who, despite a certificate from the Labor Office attesting that they are suitable for vocational training, have been unable to find an apprenticeship even after numerous placement attempts. Since the results have been so positive, the Labor Office is now offering this assistance on a permanent basis and is paying for it out of its own resources.

Phase 2: Vocational secondary modern school
The pupils who attend vocational secondary modern schools often have a very limited notion of what career paths may be open to them. This phase used a series of interlocking conceptual modules to communicate their responsibility for their own future career. The following activities were performed to enable the youngsters to begin to think independently about their career choices and preferences:
  • Career orientation/career development options (7th grade)
  • Career selection (8th grade)
  • Application training (9th grade)
The individual modules were adapted so that they can be carried out by teachers at vocational secondary modern schools. Brochures are currently being drawn up and will be available here for download as soon as they are ready.

Phase 3: Model to improve the educational position of immigrants
Young immigrants in particular often fail to establish a foothold on the training market: a disproportionate number of young immigrants never complete an apprenticeship or vocational training course. In collaboration with the Labor Office, the Department of Social Affairs and the Department of School Affairs, the model trial devised a range of services to offer young immigrants to help them successfully identify their own career orientation and find their place in the local vocational training landscape.
