Membership of national and international networks
Involvement in national and international municipal networks is of paramount importance to the work that the City of Munich does in relation to Europe. It is crucial for European cities to coordinate and bundle their interests if they are to make their voice heard among the institutions in Brussels and have an influence on European policy. Furthermore, active participation allows members to quickly find out about local authority solutions that have proven themselves as ways to implement the Commission's policies. This in turn can lead to synergistic benefits.
For these reasons, the Department of Labor and Economic Development plays an active, committed role in the following networks and associations:

EUROCITIES
The EUROCITIES network was founded in 1986. Munich has been a member since 1992. The network is currently made up of over 130 large cities in the EU and Central and Eastern Europe.

The Department of Labor and Economic Development represents the City of Munich in EUROCITIES' Economic Development and Urban Regeneration Committee (EDURC). The main focus of the committee's work is to analyze urban growth sectors and investigate ways in which innovation and new business startups can be promoted.

To coordinate the positions of Germany's EUROCITIES members and pool information with other German cities on a regular basis, the department also takes part in a German Dialogue with the relevant German cities. These sessions are held under the aegis of the German Local Authorities' Convention.

EUROGRAD Institute
For some years now, the Department of Labor and Economic Development has maintained close links with the EUROGRAD Institute in St. Petersburg. This institute concerns itself with urban development themes and advises Russian cities within the framework of the EUROGRAD network.

Its activities focus principally on strengthening local authorities and introducing Western methods of administration. In the course of over 10 years of cooperation, a series of joint seminars and conferences have been held in Russian cities and in Munich. In total, over 140 managers and leaders from Russian cities have visited Munich to investigate economic development issues in the Bavarian capital.

CCRE
The Council of European Local Authorities and Regions (CCRE) is a pan-European organization that links together local municipal and regional bodies. 54 national associations of local authorities from 40 European countries are members of the CCRE, which means that the council effectively represents some 100,000 local government bodies from all over Europe. The German chapter of the CCRE comprises around 830 cities, communities and rural districts. It is in turn represented on and has voting rights in the international Council of European Local Authorities and Regions. The leading municipal associations at national level (the German Local Authorities' Convention, the German Association of Cities and Municipalities, and the German Rural District Convention) are also members of the German chapter of the CCRE.

German Local Authorities' Convention
The German Local Authorities' Convention is the biggest association of local authorities in Germany. It represents the interest of all autonomous cities and most of the non-autonomous towns and communities. In total, its membership includes more than 3.400 cities and communities with a population of some 51 million. The Department of Labor and Economic Development participates in the convention's Committee on Economic and Single European Market Affairs.

Bavarian Local Authorities' Convention
The Bavarian Local Authorities' Convention links up the Free State's key urban centers. 269 towns and communities also participate on a voluntary basis. The convention assumes the role of advocate, representing the interests of the state's local authorities to parliament and the government in order to defend the local administrative autonomy.
