New Herrenchiemsee Castle  (Neues Schloss Herrenchiemsee)

For Ludwig II of Bavaria, the French king Louis XIV was the perfect embodiment of absolute monarchy. The New Herrenchiemsee Palace, designed by Georg Dollmann and Julius Hofmann, is the fulfillment of the monarch's long-cherished dream of a "New Versailles": it is also a symbol of absolutism and an eloquent expression of the historicist style.

Great Hall of Mirrors
There are more than twenty staterooms, of which the highlights are the Ambassador's Staircase, the Great Hall of Mirrors and the State Bedchamber The palace park designed by Carl von Effner is also reminiscent of Versailles

King Ludwig II Museum in the New Palace
The story of Ludwig II's life and of his untimely death can be retraced through paintings, busts and historic photographs, as well as memorabilia such as his baptismal dress and coronation robe.

Other exhibits include furnishings from the former royal apartment and the winter garden of the Munich Residence. The ground plans for Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee are also on display.
A special section is dedicated to the monarch's friendship with Richard Wagner: it includes portraits, caricatures, music scores, and stage sets, as well as the model for the festival theater planned by Gottfried Semper.
