Oberammergau


Picturesque alpine village, known the world over because of the Passion Play which takes place there every ten years. Also famous for its "Herrgottschnitzer" (woodcarvers specializing in religious figures).

Until the middle of the 16th century, Oberammergau was an important transit point on the trade road from Augsburg via Mittenwald to Venice.

Passion Play - First presented in 1634, the Play is performed once every 10 years. The next performance will take place in 2010.

Take the A 95 to Garmisch; the B2 to Oberau, then the B23.
