Further Education

Education

You never stop learning: Munich offers a wide range of courses and programmes for people who work and would like to obtain further qualifications and also programmes where you can explore your personal talents. Whatever your interests are, you will certainly find something appealing. All of these courses require a good command of German - the websites are also available in Geman only. To make your mouth water, however, here is a selection of what you can do and learn in Munich.

The Münchener Volkshochschule (Adult Education Centre) is open to everybody who wants to learn more. The courses offered cover a wide range of possible interests: language courses, including German as a second language; cultural programmes; music and art; philosophy and history; health and home economy; and much more. If you need an official certificate of German secondary education (Abitur, Fachabitur or Mittlere Reife), this is the place to go to prepare for the exams after work.

The IHK (Industrie- und Handelskammer; Association of Industry and Trade) offers courses for school graduates or people seeking further training in all skills connected with every day work in an office, including courses in IT. There is an exam at the end of the apprenticeship, which will help you to find a job in such an area. Abitur, A-levels, baccalaureat or equivalent are not prerequisite.

The Katholische Erwachsenenbildung (Catholic Institute for Education of Adults) runs courses on everyday as well as spiritual matters. You can explore your creativity (dancing, painting), brush up your IT skills or participate in cultural activities. Courses in psychology and bible studies round off this versatile programme.
