Decorated in the unmistakable style of the Alpine foothills, the German crossbow championships are traditionally held here every year during the Oktoberfest. Therefore, traditionally, many shooting clubs also visit the tent. In general, the audience is mixed, and the band Platzl Oktoberfestkapelle provides a hearty atmosphere. Bavarian tradition is emphasized, which is also demonstrated by the Schuhplattler (folk dancers) and Goaßlschnalzer (whip crackers), who perform every Wednesday at 12 noon.

Augustiner-Festhalle

mde

The Augustiner Festhalle is first of all known for its beer, which is still tapped here from traditional wooden barrels - called "Hirschen". Especially on weekends, there is already a good atmosphere in the tent in the afternoon. During the week, the atmosphere is more relaxed, especially during the day, when the tent is also a popular option for families with children.

  • Seating capacity inside: 6,000
  • Seating outside: 2,500

Fischer-Vroni

Sebastian Lehner

The Fischer Vroni is known for its „Steckerlfisch“: Over a length of 15 meters, the crispy fish are grilled here. Usually, the Fischer Vroni is rather cozy, but not on the second Monday of Oktoberfest. On this day is Gay-Oktoberfest and the Munich gay and lesbian scene meets to celebrate.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1904
  • Seating capacity inside: 3,162
  • Seats outside: 700
  • Beer: Augustiner Bräu

Hacker Festzelt

Katy Spichal

The Hacker Festzelt does not bear the nickname „Heaven of the Bavarians" for nothing. The ceiling construction really does make you feel a bit like you're in heaven. The fact that the Hacker is one of the most popular tents at the Oktoberfest is also reflected in the audience: from regulars to young party people, everything is represented here. Don't miss the Kehraus (sweep) on the last day of the Oktoberfest, when the tent is bathed in a very special light with thousands of sparklers.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1894
  • Seating capacity inside: 6,838
  • Seats outside: 2,540
  • Beer: Hacker-Pschorr

Hofbräu-Festzelt

Sebastian Lehner

The State Hofbräuhaus is world-famous, so the Bavarian Hofbräu festival tent attracts guests from all over the world, who provide an international party atmosphere in the evenings. As the only festival tent, visitors can also enjoy their beer at Hofbräu in the standing area directly in front of the music podium. Every year, the ceiling is decorated with wreaths made from 12 hundredweight of hops. In the middle of it hangs the figure of the grumpy angel Aloisius.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1952
  • Seats inside: 6,018 and in the standing area approx. 1,000
  • Seats outside: 3,022
  • Beer: Hofbräu

Käfer Wies'n-Schänke

Sebastian Lehner

The Wies'n-Schänke (operated by the Käfer delicatessen company) is not really a tent, because it is made of solid wood and is more reminiscent of an old farmhouse. Accordingly, there are more seats outside in the beer garden than inside. You can usually only get in with a reservation. The tent is considered to be the celebrity meeting place at the Oktoberfest, who feel at home in the intimate hut atmosphere. The tavern is decorated with antiques and floral decorations, and the delicacies and Wiesn specialties of the house are accompanied by beer and sparkling wine - even until half past twelve in the morning.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1971
  • Seating capacity inside: 1,500
  • Seating outside: 2022 (beer garden and bars)
  • Beer: Paulaner

Kufflers Weinzelt

Sebastian Lehner

Wine has always been part of the Oktoberfest. For 200 years, wine lovers have also enjoyed the world's largest folk festival, since 1984 in the wine tent of the Kuffler family. Instead of beer benches, guests sit in u-shaped wooden boxes reminiscent of a Franconian vineyard. In the cozy atmosphere with rustic wood, people celebrate rather dignified to live music. It is open until after midnight, when the lights go out in other tents. You won't find any beer mugs here: Wheat beer is served until 9 p.m., after that only wine, sparkling wine and champagne are served.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1984
  • Seating capacity inside: 1,920
  • Seats outside: 580
  • Beer: Paulaner (wheat beer)

Löwenbräu-Festzelt

Sebastian Lehner

The Löwenbräu festival tent with its 37-meter-high tower is hard to miss and, above all, impossible to miss: A mighty lion towers over the entrance, roaring its unmistakable "Löööwenbräu" every minute. The tent is particularly popular with TSV 1860 Munich supporters, but also with newcomers (especially Italians) who enjoy the evening party atmosphere. Despite all the fun, tradition is also important, as the many regular guests prove. In the evening, 16,000 LED lights provide a radiant glow.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1910
  • Seating capacity inside: 5,700
  • Seating outside: 2,800
  • Beer: Löwenbräu

Marstall Festzelt

Sebastian Lehner

The Marstall tent replaced the famous Hippodrom in 2014. The youngest festival tent owes its name to the former riding school of the Bavarian court, which is why the design and decoration of the Marstall is also „horse-influenced" - starting with the illuminated quadriga above the entrance. During the day, the tent is popular with families, because the benches are not allowed to be climbed before 4 pm. Special dishes for the little ones and spacious, free aisles do the rest. The party atmosphere in the evening is all the more exuberant.

  • At Oktoberfest since: 2014
  • Seating inside: 3,200 plus 230 standing places
  • Seating outside: 882
  • Beer: Spaten

Ochsenbraterei

Sebastian Lehner

For over 140 years, the ox has been the focal point of the ox roast and is already symbolically grilled above the entrance. More than 100 oxen are consumed during the Oktoberfest, each of which is personally selected by the festival hosts on the municipal Karlshof estate and named on boards in the tent. Because of the culinary offerings, the festival tent is especially popular with Munich residents, less so with tourists. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is very traditional: many local clubs and companies have their regulars' tables here, and the blue-and-white fabric decoration under the roof creates a Bavarian flair.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1881
  • Seating capacity inside: 5,900
  • Seats outside: 1,646
  • Beer: Spaten

Paulaner Festzelt

Sebastian Lehner

The Paulaner beer tent, formerly known as the Winzerer Fähndl, is recognizable from afar by the giant beer stein at the top of the tent tower. The tent is known for its cozy atmosphere and the large number of regulars, and appears bright and friendly. The visitors here are a bit older, which is the reason why it is not as wild as in other tents. The beer is served very quickly: Thanks to an underground beer pipeline, up to 15 Maß (mugs of 1 liter beer) per minute can be taken from a tap. The south-facing beer garden is particularly popular on sunny fall days.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1885
  • Seating capacity inside: 6,385
  • Seating outside: 1,980
  • Beer: Paulaner

Pschorr Festzelt Bräurosl

Sebastian Lehner

Popularly known as the Bräurosl, the tent was named after Rosi Pschorr, the daughter of a brewery owner and former Oktoberfest host. Particular emphasis is placed on musical entertainment, to which a tent's own singer contributes. Innkeeper Peter Reichert completely modernized the tent in 2022. The color green now prevails again, as in earlier times. The traditions and also the Munich regulars have remained, not least because of the now rare crown meat cuisine. For years, the Bräurosl has become a meeting place for the gay community, during Gay Sunday on the first Sunday of the Oktoberfest.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1901
  • Seating inside: 8,250 (inside and outside)
  • Seats outside: 560 outdoor loggia, 1,200 in the beer garden
  • Beer: Hacker-Pschorr

Schottenhamel Festhalle

Die Schottenhamel Festhalle von außen
Katy Spichal

The Schottenhamel Festhalle is the oldest and most traditional festival tent, as the Schottenhamel family has been present at the Oktoberfest since 1867. Every year, the traditional tapping of the first beer barrel by the mayor of Munich takes place here at 12 o'clock sharp. If you secure a seat early enough, you can watch it live. The tent is simply furnished, but impresses with its unusual bench arrangement, where you sit not only opposite, but also around the corner. One more reason why the „Schott'n" is a popular meeting place for young people.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1867
  • Seating capacity inside: 6,288
  • Seats outside: 2,742
  • Beer: Spaten

Schützen-Festzelt

Sebastian Lehner

The Schützen festival tent below the Bavaria statue impresses with its balcony and the surrounding inner gallery. The beer garden is sheltered from the wind and pleasant even in cooler weather. The audience, with all generations represented, consists mainly of locals and regulars from shooting clubs. This is because, as the name suggests, the traditional Oktoberfest shooting event of the Bavarian Sports Shooting Association takes place in an adjacent building. Guests can watch the action at 110 shooting ranges.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 1876
  • Seating capacity inside: 4,923 plus 120 standing places
  • Seats outside: 1,235
  • Beer: Löwenbräu

Sebastian Lehner

It's not all about tent size at the Oktoberfest. The 21 smaller beer tents also offer a great atmosphere combined with traditional music, delicious bavarian specialities, and of course beer. Some of these tents have been the favourites of festival-goers for many years. (as of 2023)

Festzelt Tradition (Historical Oktoberfest „Oide Wiesn" not in 2024)

Sebastian Lehner

Historic, but not old - that actually describes the Tradition marquee at the Oidn Wiesn (historic part of the Oktoberfest) quite well. Because on the one hand, the tent is modeled on the Oktoberfest halls of the past, and on the other hand, the Festzelt Tradition has only been on the Theresienwiese since 2010. Like the entire Oidn Wiesn, things are a bit more cozy and quiet here. Therefore, many families come, but also people who just want to chat with brass music and Augustiner beer from stone mugs. It is anticipated that the 2024 marquee will be used as a beer tent at the Bavarian Central Agricultural Festival (9/21-9/26/2024) at Theresienwiese.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 2010
  • Seating capacity inside: 5,000
  • Seating outside: 3,050
  • Beer: Augustiner Bräu

Schützenlisl (Historical Oktoberfest „Oide Wiesn", not in 2024)

Schützenlisl auf der Oidn Wiesn
Anette Göttlicher

The rustic folk singers' tent at the Oidn Wiesn, with its half-timbering and pagoda sky, is modeled on a Bavarian inn. And it is completely in the tradition of folk singing: folk songs, gstanzl, brass music and a lot of humor are on the program here. But modern folk music is also represented. A special feature of this tent is the "Wirtshausgsang" for everyone: the presenter Traudi Siferlinger encourages the guests to sing along.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 2022
  • Seating capacity inside: 1396
  • Seats outside: 400
  • Beer: Augustiner in steins and wheat beer from Hacker Pschorr

Herzkasperlzelt (Historical Oktoberfest "Oide Wiesn", not in 2024)

Sebastian Lehner

The Herzkasperl tent has a rustic atmosphere with comedians, music, dancing and Bavarian entertainment. In the tradition of the figure of the Herzkasperl, once impersonated by Jörg Hube, things are cheeky but hearty here. which of course also attracts the corresponding (rather local) audience. People still like to party, but in a more relaxed way. And of course, a visit to the Oktoberfest is never complete without typical Bavarian dishes and beer.

  • At the Oktoberfest since: 2010
  • Seating capacity inside: 1,748
  • Seating outside: 1,100
  • Beer: Hacker-Pschorr
