This traditional restaurant "Zum Spöckmeier", founded in 1450 at Marienplatz, is one of the first of its kind in Munich. Its original Bavarian cuisine and a butcher's shop on the premises have made Spöckmeier a permanent institution in the centre of Munich. That the Stiftl family also take their cue from the pulse of the times is proved by their flair for combining tradition and modern elements.

The successful mix of a down-to-earth, congenial atmosphere and stimulating modern details is something the guests discover from the premises that were freshly decorated in 2009. Agreeably light-coloured wooden panelling, large historical pictures on the walls and cheerful lighting in keeping with the times have made Spöckmeier sparkle anew. The interior décor includes an original taproom and several smaller separate rooms, whose names and design are inspired by Karl Valentin, the Munich Child and the white sausage.

Talking of white sausages, the Munich speciality and many other Bavarian delicacies are produced in the restaurant's own butcher's shop with ingredients of outstanding quality from the region. The menu at Spöckmeier offers the appropriate traditionally Bavarian dishes as well as modern variations. In the case of the appetising creation of "Bavarian tapas", for example, all the tit-bits can be tried out in small, very fine portions, whatever you fancy.
