Munich Transport and Tariff Association (Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund, MVV)

Public Transport

Thanks to the Munich Transport and Tariff Union, one fare system applies to all of Munich’s public transport. MVV is a transport network. Transport networks provide passengers with plenty of benefits because they make using public transport convenient: There is only one timetable, one ticket will allow you to travel on the entire transport network, and you pay based on the same fare system no matter where you go, regardless of how many transport operators shuttle you around. For MVV passengers, this has become a matter of course.

How the Munich Transport and Tariff Union Works

MVV is a collaboration of the State Capital of Munich, the Free State of Bavaria, eight network counties, the network company and the transport operators that partner for the passengers’ benefit.
The administrative authorities that are also shareholders in the network company specify the requirements governing transport policy in the network. They order the amount of transport required and use public funds to finance public transport if fare revenue does not suffice.
The transport operators provide transport services, ensuring that MVV passengers are carried dependably and in compliance with a strict quality standard.
Network company MVV GmbH provides services for its principals and the transport operators. It co-ordinates and optimizes joint collaboration.
