When walking through the streets in Munich, it becomes clear that Munich's football fans are extremely dedicated. It's not uncommon to see fans wearing more than three TSV 1860 München scarfs in the middle of the summer while chanting team songs in the Underground station.

Munich holds two national league teams: FC Bayern München and TSV 1860 München, also affectionately dubbed "the Lions" because for decades they were sponsored by a Munich brewery that has a lion in its coat of arms. Both teams can be seen during home games at the Allianz Arena, a fantastic stadium that has been built in the north of Munich to house these major events, especially the Football World Championships 2006 which will take place in Germany. The arena was chosen to host the German national team in the Opening Match of the World Cup on 9 June 2006.
