6 great shopping arcades in Munich
Shopping in any weather: from Fünf Höfe to Stachus Passagen
Enjoyable shopping even in bad weather? This is best done in Munich's beautiful shopping arcades around the city centre. Whether Fünf Höfe, Stachus-Passagen or Hofstatt: We'll tell you where you can find your favorite arcade and also discover art and cool pop up stores...
Shopping with a history: The Luitpoldblock
The heart of the Brienner quarter is the Luitpoldblock, a historical complex in which you will find the famous café as well as numerous top-class shops: Whether Aesop, Missoni or Schwittenberg - it is still a little insider tip, even for Munich residents!
Small but nice: The Theatiner Passage
From Brienner Straße it is not far to Odeonsplatz and Theatinerstraße. To the left, the small but excellent Theatiner Passage branches off there, directly at the Maelu with its delicious macarons. In addition to the old cinema Theatiner Film, which is a must for fans of auteur films in particular, you will find hats, Indian fashion and home accessories.
Art, culture, restaurants and shopping: The Fünf Höfe (Five Courts)
Directly opposite of the Theatiner Passage you can enter the Fünf Höfe. It's hard to imagine life without this little city within the city - whether it is for shopping, strolling, eating, drinking or for culture. There are the always exciting exhibitions in the Hypo-Kunsthalle. However the arcade is simply a work of art itself: The hanging gardens of Tita Giese, or the glass mosaics of the Malerische Hofkunstanstanstalt in the Prannerpassage - and of course "Sphere" in the Viscardihof, a large steel mesh ball designed by Ólafur Elíasson.
Shopping underground: The Stachus Passagen
It is hard to imagine what it used to look like here without the white, round tiles that adorn the ceiling of Europe's largest underground shopping centre. With 58 shops and up to 250,000 visitors every day, the Stachus Passages can also be described as a kind of shopping city.
Sunset included: The Kaufingertor Passagen
The arcade between Kaufinger Strasse and Fürstenfelder Strasse has its own light art concept: "The Urban Horizon" abstracts the colours of the sunset, even on rainy days. On 4600 square meters the Kaufingertor Passage offers everything your heart desires.
Pop Up and Concept Stores: The Hofstatt
There is always something going on at the Hofstatt - not only because shopping highlights are waiting for you in the numerous concept stores, but also because of the many events and changing offers. For example the Pop Up Stores: In the heart of the Hofstatt there are always new and exciting shops to discover! And if you have a hole in your stomach from all the shopping - the authentic Italian pizzas in OhJulia will be the right choice...
