Munich European Championship kick-off: Germany defeated by France
European Championship kick-off in the host city of Munich: In the first of four games in the Bavarian capital, the German national team lost 0:1 to world champion France.
After German and French supporters had already enjoyed the picture-book weather in downtown Munich during the day, they transported the dazzling atmosphere to the Munich soccer arena as well. Host City Munich: Matchday 1 in the city
The whole of Munich is under the impression of the football festival. Numerous turquoise flags are flying at Marienplatz, and around 300 volunteers are on duty in the city, spreading the European Championship atmosphere between Ostbahnhof and Stachus, between Odeonsplatz and the arena in Fröttmaning. The volunteers provide help and advice to all guests throughout the entire tournament.
The supporting program in the city is also inspiring. At Stachus, in Sendlinger Straße and at many other places in the city center and the old town, freestylers, live bands and artists get Munich residents and all guests in the mood for the games.
On the match days, light art sets a further accent. During the first match between France and Germany, the New City Hall was illuminated in the national colors of the opponents.
