Munich Creative Business Week
Munich is home to Germany's biggest design event: nine days of design split into two segments. CREATE BUSINESS! targets a trade audience and provides conferences and workshops. Alongside this segment, DESIGN SCHAU! appeals to a wider audience, cultivating a passion for design with a series of exhibitions and campaigns.
Two pivotal features of the Munich Creative Business Week are the MCBW Forum as a central contact hub and the Infopoint which, last time around, was hosted by the HFF Munich University of Television and Film in the museum quarter. The extensive program is spread throughout the whole city and includes recurrent highlights such as the MCBW STARTUP platform, a different guest country each time, cooperation with the Munich Handwerksmesse fair for construction, renovation and refurbishment and a high-profile regional partner.
Two prestigious prizes – the iF Design Award and the Münchner Modepreis (Munich Fashion Award, every two years) are also presented at the MCBW.
The next MCBW runs from March 7-15, 2020.
Review of MCBW 2019
In 2019, Germany's foremost design happening laid on about 100 events for trade visitors and a further 115 exhibitions and events for the general public. All in all, some 70,000 visitors attended the Munich Creative Business Week.
Four key topics laid the foundation for the program: creation and innovation, icons of design, German premieres and a peek into the future. Highlights included the EDCH editorial design conference, the MCBW DESIGNCINEMA, the BMW designers talk with a top-class line-up, the “Women in Bauhaus” section centered around the works of Gunda Stölzl and the exciting startup event “Moonshot: Market‑ready in 72 hours”. Guests included international design luminaries Patricia Urquiola, Adrian von Hooydonk (BMW), Marcel Wanders and Hartmut Esslinger.
Meeting place for the design community and beyond
A kaleidoscope of events, exhibitions, readings and high-caliber awards gives visitors to the Munich Creative Business Week (MCBW) the chance to experience design and creativity from every conceivable angle.
Trade audiences and the interested public: The MCBW's wide-ranging program has always been open to an extensive target group, because good design needs to be appreciated – by observers and customers alike. That is why Munich is the perfect location for a design event that has successfully raised the industry's visibility in a short space of time.
The MCBW specifically aims to forge links between companies and designers operating in different disciplines, and to encourage public dialog about sustainable developments, trends and ideas. The subject matter ranges from product, service and communication design to architecture to fashion and jewelry design.
The MCBW targets a trade audience comprising young professionals, students and start-ups. Yet at the same time, it seeks to get the public at large excited about the social, cultural, economic and sustainability aspects of good design.
Munich Creative Business Week
The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology and the City of Munich both support the MCBW, which is organized by bayern design GmbH. iF International Forum Design GmbH is a founding partner. As MCBW partners, BMW Group and Steelcase provide substantial support.
iF design award
Since 2013 the iF design awards were presented each year in Munich at a glamorous gala during MCBW. On stage at BMW Welt, all winners took receipt of the golden iF Award. During the upcoming MCBW, again the event is going to be one of the highlights.
