At the Haferlmarkt, 1914

The history dates back to 1310. In 1796, the Au district was granted the right to hold a fair, and in 1799 the market moved to Mariahilfplatz. Since 1905, all three fairs have been held there. Today, the Auer Dult is one of Munich's most traditional markets, attracting several hundred thousand visitors annually.

  • 1310 – First Jakobidult at the Anger (St. Jacob's Square)
  • 1796 – Elector Karl Theodor grants the village of Au the right to hold a fair
  • 1799 – Relocation to Mariahilfplatz; the name "Auer Dult" is established; "Dutch Market" for secondhand goods added
  • 1854 – Incorporation of Au into Munich: The Dult fair comes to Munich
  • 1905 – All three Dult fairs united at Mariahilfplatz
  • 2020 – First two Dult fairs canceled due to COVID-19

Today – Up to 346,000 visitors per year (peak expected in 2024)
