Tents are set up at Theresienwiese from late September to early October (the festival period). In 1040, the first ever brewery began operations. Guess where it is again? Exactly, Munich! The Weihenstephan abbey located in Freising, north of Munich, is the world’s oldest brewery and produces a kind of enticing wheat beer called Hefeweizen. Almost 300 years later, the oldest independent brewery in Munich, Augustiner Brau, was also founded. They make the popular Augustiner Helles (pale beer), Edelstoff (light beer), Augustiner Dunkles (dark beer), Oktoberfestbier and much more. There is no way you won’t discover a new favorite, after tasting these varieties.
Fun fact: The Augustiner brewery was first opened in a monastery! If you wonder what the first beers ever made taste like, then you must visit Munich!
