Since 1980, the office has been located in Munich's main building in the Gärtnerplatz district. Inventors or companies from all over the world can apply for patents here for up to 44 European countries, which are examined, granted or rejected by the Patent Office.

Subsidiaries of the European Patent Office

In Munich, there are two branches of the European Patent Office in the PschorrHöfe and in the Capitellum building. Others are located in The Hague and Berlin, among other places. While the European Patent Office is responsible for international invention protection, the German Patent Office in Munich, located a few meters away, takes care of national matters.
