AMUSEUM to reopen in fall 2025
The AMUSEUM is currently closed for remodeling and will reopen in fall 2025.
Why is it worth visiting the AMUSEUM?
They are considered publicity-shy, sometimes revealing only their names or remaining anonymous—which makes documenting the work of street artists challenging. Nevertheless, those responsible for the AMUSEUM have made it their mission.
What's on offer? Whether Shepard Fairey, NoNAME, or INVADER: they are all known far beyond their work in public spaces and have already exhibited at the AMUSEUM. On display are paintings, sculptures, video works, and other pieces that were created exclusively for the exhibitions in Munich in collaboration with the museum.
What makes it special? The AMUSEUM is characterized by its long-standing close collaboration with the artists. Another goal is to make the works accessible to a broad public: admission is free, and visitors can donate an amount of their choice.
Street art in the museum – a different setting for the young genre

The name AMUSEUM is a play on words combining “amusement” and “museum.” The concept of the building also plays with the two worlds in which artists operate: many of them are well known for their works in public spaces, but most artists in the art movement also exhibit their work in museums.
- Street art on the exterior façade: At the entrance to the AMUSEUM, it is worth looking up to see an original mosaic by the artist INVADER, which he created during his “invasion” of the museum in 2023.
- Unique pieces: In addition to works from the collections of street artists, unique pieces created especially for the exhibition are also on display.
- Exhibition premieres: In November 2022, the AMUSEUM opened with what was then Germany's first solo exhibition of street art icon Shepard Fairey, alias OBEY Giant, entitled “New Clear Power.”

History of the AMUSEUM

It all began with an “idealistic vision,” as the initiators describe it: with the founding of Positive Propaganda. Since 2012, the art association has established itself in the field of art-historical engagement with the international street art scene. Numerous works have been created in public spaces in Munich (e.g., “Paint it Black” by Shepard Fairey in Neuhausen). But what was missing for a long time was an exhibition space.
After using a workshop as a venue from 2014 to 2019, a storefront in Munich City Hall was acquired in 2020. Then came Corona, and at the end of 2020, the store had to close. In November 2022, the AMUSEUM of Contemporary Art opened. Its director is Sebastian Pohl, who is also the artistic director at Positive Propaganda.
