In honor of the King of Pop: Di Lasso statue as a place of pilgrimage
The Promenadeplatz (Promenade Square) stretches between Pacelli and Maffeistraße in the northwestern part of the old town. Here is a green area with a total of five monuments:
- Lorenz Westenrieder statue
- Orlando-di-Lasso statue
- Monument to Elector Max Emanuel
- Monument to Willibald Gluck
- Monument to Maximilian Joseph Count of Montgelas
The Promenadeplatz is dominated by the 5-star Hotel Bayerischer Hof. In addition, the theater "Kleine Komöde im Bayerischen Hof" is located here.
Another famous building on Promenadeplatz is the rococo-style Gunetzrhainerhaus, which has graced the square since 1730.
Since the death of pop musician Michael Jackson in 2009, the Di Lasso statue has become a place of pilgrimage for his fans. Dozens of bouquets of flowers, candles and posters here commemorate the King of Pop, who stayed at the hotel Bayerischer Hof several times during his stays in Munich.
