Where BMW started off in Munich

In 2007 BMW Welt opened its gates for the public at the Oberwiesenfeld in Munich-Milbertshofen. The location could not be more appropriate. Here, directly adjacent to the BMW corporate headquarters, the BMW parent plant and the BMW Museum, two pioneers founded their companies at the beginning of the last century: Gustav Otto with his “Flugmaschinenfabrik” (“Flight Machine Factory”) and Karl Rapp with his “Motorenwerke” (“Motor Works”). In 1917 the two enterprises merged to form a brand that has moved and fascinated a great number of people to the present day: BMW.
