Information about the folk festival: Extended to three weeks in 2026

Spring Festival in Munich 2026 at Theresienwiese: tents, program, and information

The Spring Festival is traditionally the first major folk festival of the year at Munich's Theresienwiese. It features two festival tents, over 100 showmen with rides and stalls, and a large supporting program. To mark the 60th anniversary of the Spring Festival, the folk festival will be extended from two to three weeks, from April 17 to May 10, 2026. In addition to another family afternoon, a so-called “Bummeltag” (stroll day) is planned with an affordable program for economically disadvantaged families. Further activities are being discussed with the district committees.

In addition, fireworks are planned for two Friday evenings. On family afternoons on Tuesdays, there are reduced prices from noon to 7 p.m.

There are two large festival tents at the Spring Festival: the Bayernland festival hall run by the Schöniger family (Augustiner) and the former Hippodrom Oktoberfest tent run by the Krätz family (Spaten). Live bands and brass bands play Bavarian folk music and pop music in both festival tents every day.

Admission to the tents is free, and reservations can be made on the festival tent websites. In addition, when the weather is nice, a wheat beer garden invites visitors to enjoy a half-liter of beer with Bavarian delicacies.

Showmen and booths: attractions at the spring festival

At the Spring Festival, you can expect a mix of traditional and modern rides and attractions, from bumper cars and roller coasters to throwing booths. The highlight is the Willenborg Ferris wheel, which is over 50 meters high and offers passengers a wonderful view of Theresienwiese and Munich.

Other rides include the Bayern Tower chain carousel, the Flip Fly, the XXL-Höhenrausch swing, the Top Spin No. 1, the Wilde Maus roller coaster, and a whitewater ride. Children's carousels are available for younger guests.

Of course, hearty and sweet treats await you at the showmen's stalls. On Tuesdays, family afternoons are held from 12 noon to 7 p.m. with discounted prices.

Bavarian Customs Day

The Spring Festival celebrates Bavarian culture at Theresienwiese with its traditional customs day, which will take place on May 3, 2026. Bavarian traditional costume associations parade onto the festival grounds with horse-drawn carriages and the Münchner Kindl. Brass bands, Schuhplattler dancers, and Goaßlschnalzer whip crackers play folk music free of charge in the festival tents and entertain as street musicians.

Classic car meet

On the second Sunday of the festival (April 26), well-maintained classic cars will drive onto the Theresienwiese: The Automobil-Club München e.V (ACM) invites everyone to its annual spring festival meeting. From early in the morning, classic cars roll into the southern part of Bavaria: cute VW Beetles, flashy Mantas, elegant Porsches, and extravagant cars from the USA are all there.

Directions to the Spring Festival

The easiest way to get to the Spring Festival is to take the U4/U5 subway to the Theresienwiese stop. If you are arriving by S-Bahn, get off at Hackerbrücke station and follow the signs (or the cheerful people in traditional costumes). The Hermann-Lingg-Straße tram stop (tram 18/19) is also nearby, as is the Goetheplatz stop on the U3 and U6 underground lines.
