The 2026 Spring Festival kicks off on April 17 with an opening parade and ceremonial first tap (starting at 2:30 PM), and wraps up on May 10 with the HandwerksFrühling (Artisan Spring) – a brand-new event premiering for the 60th anniversary. In between, there are two fireworks shows, Bavaria's largest flea market (April 18), a vintage car meet (April 26), and Traditional Customs Day (May 3). Every Tuesday from 12 PM to 7 PM, reduced prices apply throughout the strolling afternoons and family afternoons.

Special Events in 2026: On April 24, the Grand Diamond Fireworks will light up the sky above the Theresienwiese; on May 8, the Music Fireworks with Charivari 95.5 follow – both starting at 10 PM. On April 29, five hot-air balloons will create a glowing spectacle during the Night Glow. Anyone who still has Deutsche Mark at home can use it to pay across the entire festival grounds on April 27 and May 4. And on April 19, every carousel ride costs just 60 cents from 10 to 11 AM – with discounted deals at the stalls as well.

The Spring Festival features two large beer tents: the Festhalle Bayernland, run by the Schöniger family (Augustiner), and the Hippodrom, a former Oktoberfest tent operated by the Krätz family (Spaten). In both tents, live bands and brass ensembles perform Bavarian folk music and popular German hits daily.

Admission to the tents is free; reservations can be made on the tents' respective websites. When the weather is nice, a "Weißbier garden" also invites guests to enjoy a half-liter with traditional Bavarian delicacies.

Browse, stroll, and haggle on the first Saturday of the Spring Festival at the giant flea market on Theresienwiese on April 18, 2026. At Bavaria's largest flea market, organized by the Bavarian Red Cross, around 2,500 vendors and thousands of visitors flock to the Wiesn in search of bargains.

Brilliant fireworks

Munich's fairground operators thank their visitors with two fireworks shows — and in 2026, a Night Glow balloon event makes its debut for the very first time:

  • 🎆 Grand Diamond Fireworks · Fri, April 24 · 10 PM: A classic large-scale fireworks display over the Theresienwiese
  • 🎶 Music Fireworks with Charivari 95.5 · Fri, May 8 · 10 PM: A fireworks show set to a curated DJ soundtrack by Radio Charivari 95.5
  • 🎈 Night Glow – Balloon Glow · Wed, April 29 · from 8 PM (New in 2026): Five hot-air balloons will be fired up on the southern part of the Theresienwiese (between Streets 3 and 4) – the burners' flames create a stunning glowing effect. Music by Radio Charivari.

Bavarian Customs Day

The Spring Festival celebrates Bavarian culture at Theresienwiese with its traditional customs day, which will take place on May 3, 2026. Bavarian traditional costume associations parade onto the festival grounds with horse-drawn carriages and the Münchner Kindl. Brass bands, Schuhplattler dancers, and Goaßlschnalzer whip crackers play folk music free of charge in the festival tents and entertain as street musicians.

Classic car meet

On the second Sunday of the festival (April 26), well-maintained classic cars will drive onto the Theresienwiese: The Automobil-Club München e.V (ACM) invites everyone to its annual spring festival meeting. From early in the morning, classic cars roll into the southern part of Bavaria: cute VW Beetles, flashy Mantas, elegant Porsches, and extravagant cars from the USA are all there.

Directions to the Spring Festival

The easiest way to get to the Spring Festival is to take the U4/U5 subway to the Theresienwiese stop. If you are arriving by S-Bahn, get off at Hackerbrücke station and follow the signs (or the cheerful people in traditional costumes). The Hermann-Lingg-Straße tram stop (tram 18/19) is also nearby, as is the Goetheplatz stop on the U3 and U6 underground lines.
