In Munich there are several stages where plays are performed in English. In addition, there are several ensembles that also perform in English. A selection:

Münchner Kammerspiele

The Münchner Kammerspiele has some of the most important stages of german-speaking displays. Since inception, the theatre has been shaped by a strong ensemble, which particularly seeks the dialogue and confrontation with the present. The Münchner Kammerspiele tout themselves as an aesthetically innovative, contemporary, and cosmopolitan municipal theatre with a socio-political focus. Since the 2015/16 season, Münchner Kammerspiele has offered some its theatre productions with English subtitles.

    Deutsches Theater

    Formerly known as "the fairy palace", the Deutsches Theater in Munich is an epitome of musical and artistic displays. The magnificent spectacle was built in the late 18th century and has played host to some of the world's greatest performers.

    Famous german artists like Erni Singerl, Beppo Brem, Karl Valentin and the Tiller Girls have all made appearances at the theater. Classical showcases like "West side story" and even some major Broadway hits have made their way to the Deutsches Theater at some point. They have lots of shows in English, so you have nothing to worry about. The theater hosts about 300,000 visitors annually and its shows are a must-see for residents and those visiting Munich for the first time!

    American Drama Group Europe

    The ADG Europe tours the whole continent with frequently stops in Munich. All actors are native english speakers, normally from Canada or the U.S.. The projects promotes not exclusively but mainly American Drama in Europe and the world.

    When in Munich, the group performs at the Amerikahaus, home to the Bavarian-American Center for cultural relations, research and exchange between Bavaria and the Americas.

    The English Drama Group

    The Drama Group of the English Department at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München stages a play towards the end of every semester, and lasts for a few days. Winter performances normally take place over the period of a week at the beginning of February, Summer performances in early July.

    The actors are students of Munich, and the director is an English lecturer of the English Department. The performances are very popular and well known - thanks to the students' commitment and enthusiasm, lively acting and the good choice of plays. For the exact schedule please consult the Department of English of the University in January/February and June/July respectively.

    Entity Theatre, Bake This and EWE

    • Founded in 1999, Entity Theatre is committed to the workshop principles of allowing participants time to develop and have fun. Actors are encouraged to experiment within the evolving framework. This gives Entity its unique dynamics. No performance is exactly the same as another. Come back and you’ll see what that means.
    • Munich's International, English speaking improvisation troupe has been performing since 2011. Bake This takes the audience's suggestions and turns them into stories and songs live on stage.
    • The East & West Encounter Theatre Group (EWE) was created in 2021. EWE aspires to bring together amateur artists who share a similar passion for contemporary theatre. Furthermore, its ambition is to produce plays which promote new and diverse voices.
