Tram and bus presented in European Championship design

UEFA EURO 2024: One Year to Go event in the host city of Munich

Only one year to go until the opening match of the UEFA EURO 2024 in Munich! The anticipation for the European Football Championships is palpable, as could be experienced at the One-Year-To-Go event with Sports Mayor Verena Dietl and Sports Officer Florian Kraus on 14 June 2023. A tram and a bus in the UEFA EURO 2024 design were also presented, which will be travelling through Munich from now until the start of the tournament.

The anticipation for the tournament in Munich is growing

"We are particularly pleased and also very proud that the state capital of Munich is hosting the opening match of UEFA EURO 2024 here," said Sports Mayor Verena Dietl exactly one year before the start of the tournament. "Today we can ring in the last 366 days and get the people of Munich in the mood for a really great, successful football festival here for us and for everyone together."

Sports officer Florian Kraus is also looking forward to the European Championships. Of course, the major sporting event is not just limited to the games in the arena: "There will be a fan zone in the Olympic Park and many other cultural activities throughout Munich. And of course we want to show that a major tournament like this can actually be organised sustainably. MVG is at our side here as a partner."

MVG Managing Director Ingo Wortmann symbolically presented a branded bus and a tram at the "One Year to Go" event. Because: "Football without public transport doesn't work." Football transport is a major logistical challenge, but one that MVG is naturally happy to take on. Anyone who wants to travel to the stadium sustainably should do so by public transport, "the underground runs on renewable electricity."

In addition to Dietl, Kraus and Wortmann, Munich's Host City Ambassador Dr Felix Brych, BFV Vice President Silke Raml, UEFA EURO 2024 long-term volunteers and pupils from the "Elite School of Football" at Theodolinden-Gymnasium were also present at the tram and bus launch on 14 June 2023.

Afterwards, most of the participants went straight on to Odeonsplatz, where the "One Year to Go" event will be celebrated with a 9-metre shoot-out until the evening. In addition, the application phase for volunteers has started exactly one year before the European Championship kicks off in Munich.

MVG tram and bus in UEFA EURO 2024 design

MVG is now getting people in the host city of Munich looking forward to the European Championships by deploying two vehicles with a European Championship look. The tram and bus bear the inscriptions "6Spieledahoam" (="six home games"), "14 June to 14 July - UEFA EURO 2024" and "United by Football". Drawn fans can also be seen waving flags.

The two vehicles will be used on various routes throughout the city until the start of the tournament on 14 June 2024.

"I'm really looking forward to the European Football Championship next year and that we can experience this great sporting event in full bloom once again. In 2021, only limited spectators were allowed in the stadium due to the necessary restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. This time, as a cosmopolitan city with a heart, we want to celebrate a great and sustainable football festival with an international audience from Europe and all over the world."

"We are looking forward to welcoming guests from all over Europe and the world to the Host City Munich. In addition to top-class football in the stadium, we will also be offering all visitors to the state capital a supporting programme of art and culture throughout the city. A highlight will be the Fan Zone in the Olympic Park, where a colourful and varied programme of music, entertainment and, of course, football will be on offer every day throughout the tournament."

"Our buses and trains will take fans to the stadium, the fan zone and the sights of our city. We are also participating in the planned shuttle routes with an estimated 30 buses. And: For all those who do not have a Deutschlandticket, the match ticket will be a digital ticket for the MVV area that is valid on the day of the match and the following day. Until kick-off in a year's time, a tram and a bus will be travelling through the city in the Euro 2024 design. This is our way of showing that we are looking forward to the fans and the games in Munich."
