Alte Utting in Munich: information, directions, opening hours

History: Former Ammersee steamer becomes a cultural hotspot

A very special cultural project is anchored near the intersection of Lagerhausstraße and Dreimühlenstraße in Munich's Sendling district: the "MS Utting" used to sail across Lake Ammersee as an excursion steamer.

The team behind the project is the same one that put the "Bahnwärter Thiel" together. The 144-ton ship was transported to Munich in 2017. It took a total of 18 months to convert the steamer into a cultural meeting place, and the grand opening took place in July 2018.

In the meantime, the Alte Utting has become an original Munich scene hotspot, with room for 600 people.

Gastronomy on board: Vegan, Italian, Exotic and Sweet

You can expect a varied gastronomy, where the word "organic" is the first priority. At several stalls around the ship you will find all kinds of food for small and large appetites:

• At Siggis everything is vegan: from gyros to Szegediner goulash to curry sausage.
• You can taste exotic specialties in the African magic kitchen. The dishes are accompanied by rice or couscous, sauces and dips.
• Italian pizza with a lot of amore is available at the Pizzeria Da Vito in the orange container at the end of the jetty.
• Of course, something sweet should not be missing! Crêpes under the stern bake you delicious French pancakes in all kinds of variations.

For dinner you can either go on board or make yourself comfortable on the seating areas at the jetty and in the beer garden behind the ship.

Drinks, wine, prosecco and beer, as well as non-alcoholic beverages, tea and coffee are served at the two bars in the midship and at the outside bars.

Events: Live music, comedy, poetry slams and workshops

In cooperation with Munich's cultural workers and ambitious citizens, a cultural program has been created around the Alte Utting in recent years that unites people and brings them together:

• The Sunday jazz and DJ breakfasts not only offer veal sausages, fresh pretzels and wheat beer, but also music to the ears.
• You can experience even more music at concerts in the ship's engine room. Bands and solo musicians from a wide variety of musical genres perform here.
• Listen and laugh along: Comedy and poetry evenings also take place on the Alte Utting.
• At Female DJ Workshops you can learn the art of DJing from well-known Munich DJs.
• The ship's yoga is sporty, and you can also take part in a meditation session.
• The Alte Utting also has a lot to offer for children: Punch and Judy shows, reading sessions, handicrafts and much more
• The close bustop to the location is Lagerhausstrasse, and there are buses from Sendinger Tor going towards that direction.
