Oktoberfest tradition of the Boandlkramerei: Music at the Oide Wiesn

The Herzkasperl tent will be replaced by the Boandlkramerei in 2024. Peter Schöniger, who previously operated a sausage stand at Oktoberfest, was awarded the contract by Munich City Council for his concept for a new tent at the Oidn Wiesn. The new festival hall is billed as a “musicians' tent with customs, tradition and culture”, so anyone looking for Bavarian coziness and music should find what they are looking for here.

The tent is named after the Boandlkramer, a Bavarian name for death. Some may know the character from the 2008 film “Die Geschichte vom Brandner Kasper”, in which Michael “Bully” Herbig plays the Boandlkramer.

Atmosphere in the Boandlkramerei

Bavarian coziness meets (modern) folk music - this is probably the best way to describe the Boandlkramerei. On the one hand, this is ensured by the tent, which is reminiscent of an old Bavarian tavern. On the other hand, the focus is on the music, with the places facing the stage in order to be as close as possible to the musical action.

The program includes well-known folk music veterans as well as new groups that get the chance to present themselves to a larger audience. Winfried Frey, who as an actor, director and radio presenter (including on “Volksmusik” on Bayern 1) is probably familiar to some of you, is responsible for selecting the music.
