Oktoberfest tradition of the Volkssängerzelt Schützenlisl: A visit to the pub
The Schützenlisl opened its doors to visitors at the Oktoberfest for the first time in 2022. However, there was already a unique tent under this name on the festival grounds in 1881. At that time, the 7th German Federal Shoot took place there. The eponymous “Schützenlisl” not only adorned the front of the tent, she also worked as a waitress.
When you enter the tent today, you will probably be reminded of a Bavarian tavern. This impression is intentional, as folk singing was and still is at home in the taverns of the Free State. The Schützenlisl is part of this tradition, which was helped to achieve widespread popularity in the 19th and 20th centuries by greats such as Karl Valentin, Papa Geis and Weiß Ferdl.
In 2021, the Stiftl host family, who previously ran a small tent at Oktoberfest, decided to revive this tradition and the Schützenlisl folk singing tent celebrated its premiere at the Oidn Wiesn in 2022.
Atmosphere in the Schützenlisl

Music and conviviality are the main focus here, which is why you will always find many Munich residents and families here. The Schützenlisl is not a party tent in the true sense of the word, but the atmosphere here is still atmospheric, which is not least due to the various music groups. In the Volkssängerzelt, unknown and up-and-coming bands often have the chance to show off their skills on stage, giving you a variety of insights into Bavarian folk music beyond the well-known Oktoberfest classics. Traudi Siferlinger, known from numerous television programs, ensures the right musical mix. She also performs on stage every day and encourages the whole tent to sing along.
