The festival grounds: How big is Oktoberfest?
The entire Theresienwiese covers around 42 hectares. In 2026, Oktoberfest occupies 34.5 hectares of that area, including the 3.5-hectare Oide Wiesn.
Around 13,000 people work at Oktoberfest — approximately 8,000 permanent staff and around 5,000 temporary and rotating workers. The food and beverage businesses provide a total of around 120,000 guest seats.
One of the largest tents is the Hofbräu-Festzelt, with around 10,000 seats. At the other end of the scale is Schiebl's Kaffeehaferl, with just 60 seats.

Applications and businesses in 2026
A total of 954 businesses with owner-operated attractions and stands applied to take part in Oktoberfest 2026. Of these, 478 were approved:
- 36 food and beverage businesses
- 243 amusement and entertainment businesses
- 182 market vendors
- several service businesses
For the Oide Wiesn, 109 applications were submitted. A total of 45 businesses were approved, including four food and beverage businesses and 41 amusement and entertainment businesses.

Beer prices at Oktoberfest 2026
A one-liter Maß of Festbier costs between 14.80 and 15.90 euros at Oktoberfest 2026, depending on the venue. The previous year, prices ranged from 14.50 to 15.80 euros. The average beer price has therefore increased by 2.38 percent.
In the large beer tents, a Maß costs between 14.90 and 15.90 euros. At the Oide Wiesn, prices range from 14.80 to 15.80 euros.

Oktoberfest 2025: 6.5 million visitors
Around 6.5 million people attended Oktoberfest in 2025. The previous year, there were about 6.7 million visitors. One reason for the decline was the several-hour closure of the festival grounds on October 1 due to a bomb threat.
The Oide Wiesn recorded 373,083 paying visitors. In 2024, the figure was 447,356.
The vast majority of visitors came from Munich and the surrounding area. On average, around 21 percent came from abroad; on the middle Saturday of the festival, the figure was about 30 percent. Particularly large numbers of international visitors came from the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, Austria, Poland, Spain, France, India and Sweden.
Beer, non-alcoholic beer and other drinks
Oktoberfest tent operators estimated beer consumption in 2025 at around 6.5 million one-liter Maß servings. The previous year, the figure was about seven million.
One striking development was the rise in non-alcoholic beer. According to voluntary reporting by the businesses, the amount reported increased from 2,400 hectoliters in 2024 to 5,638 hectoliters in 2025 — more than double.

- The current attendance record was set in 2023, when around 7.2 million people visited Oktoberfest. However, the festival lasted 18 days that year, longer than usual.
Beer record: 79,225 hectoliters
- The all-time beer record dates back to 2011. That year, 79,225 hectoliters of beer were served — almost eight million liters.
Largest beer tent ever
- The largest beer tent in Oktoberfest history was the Pschorr-Bräurosl in 1913. Covering 5,500 square meters, it had room for around 12,000 guests.
- Today, the largest Oktoberfest beer tents accommodate around 10,000 guests.

- Oktoberfest 2025 began with a weather record: 30.7°C was recorded on opening day. It had never been that warm during Oktoberfest before.
Hendl, Haxn and veggie dishes: What people eat at Oktoberfest
Food is another area where Oktoberfest reaches enormous numbers. The 2025 business report records selected dishes based on voluntary figures provided by the participating businesses.

- 165,948 pork sausages
- 71,829 pork knuckles (Haxn)
- 21,986 kilograms of fish
- 130 oxen
- 44 calves
- 45,750 kilograms of candied almonds
- 152,569 vegetarian dishes
- 51,184 vegan dishes
In 2025, 66 businesses offered organic products either in whole or in part. Classics such as Hendl, Haxn and sausages remain an integral part of Oktoberfest, while the range of vegetarian and vegan dishes has also become extensive.
Electricity, gas and water: Oktoberfest consumption in 2025
Energy and water consumption also illustrate the scale of Oktoberfest. In 2025, the festival was supplied 100 percent with renewable electricity from SWM.
- Electricity consumption during operations: around 2.8 million kilowatt-hours
- Natural gas consumption: 152,870 cubic meters
- Water consumption: 110,027 cubic meters
- Highest peak electricity demand during Oktoberfest: 12,962 kilowatts on October 3 at 7:30 pm
- Highest water consumption on a festival day: 6,430 cubic meters on the hot opening Saturday
Over the 16 days of Oktoberfest, around 130 cubic meters of water were also dispensed at the free drinking water stations.
More than 1,800 metric tons of waste
Waste disposal is another area where Oktoberfest produces impressive figures. The final Oktoberfest report for 2025 lists a total of 1,828.22 metric tons of waste.
This included:
- 902 metric tons of residual waste
- 100 metric tons of paper, cardboard and cardboard packaging
- 681.22 metric tons of food waste
- 145 metric tons of broken glass
The overall amount was slightly below the 2024 figure of 1,848.19 metric tons.n.
Lost property and disappearing beer mugs
A total of 5,656 lost items were handed in to the Oktoberfest lost and found office in 2025. These included 1,041 items of clothing, 832 wallets, 554 ID documents, 447 cell phones and smartphones, 410 bank cards, 400 keys, 335 pairs of glasses and 165 bags, backpacks and pouches. Other items included 85 umbrellas, 43 power banks and 30 watches. 986 lost items were returned to their owners while Oktoberfest was still underway.
Quite a few one-liter beer mugs were not exactly “lost” by accident: according to the Oktoberfest report, security staff stopped visitors from taking around 116,000 mugs off the festival grounds. In 2024, the figure was around 98,000.
