“Typically Munich” – this expression best describes Augustiner am Dom. The popular inn with a view of Munich’s most iconic structure, Frauenkirche cathedral, is both cozy and traditional.
It makes no difference whether you sit in the patio beer garden, in the romantic “Domblick” (Cathedral View) or in one of the other beautiful rooms. The proverbial Bavarian “Gemütlichkeit” can be experienced throughout. In accordance with their motto “no progression means regression” the team at Augustiner am Dom is continuously improving its concept of well-being: A glass of “Augustiner” lager beer fresh from the tap is a perfect companion to the seasonal specialties served on the in-house patio.
A special ambiance, of course, calls for a special cuisine. At Augustiner am Dom, “nature pure cooking” means offering regional products of top quality in an unadulterated and time-honored fashion. All meals are served fresh and homemade daily. Chef Erwin Reusch uses products from the region, such as fresh brown trout from nearby Aumühle in the Isar valley and ducks from the Lugederhof farm. He also serves up Augustiner’s own grainy mustard or Schmutzer's fiery roasted red sausages which are best enjoyed with a highly-palatable Augustiner-Edelstoff beer from the oldest still-existing brewery in Munich.
Delicacies from the Kitchen
Highlights of the menu include the legendary Schmutzer’s Nature Pure Schnitzel, fresh whitefish from Lake Ammersee and (until noon) white sausages made from veal by Wallner. The chefs, moreover, create delicious meals with organically raised lamb from the Paradieswinkel at Lake Wörthsee. For dessert, guests are tempted by sweet pleasures such as a sugared pancake with raisins or a pancake refined with Véronique Witzigmann‘s cherry-wheat beer jam. From Monday to Friday you can enjoy a rustic lunch for 9.90 EUR; on Wednesdays the favorably priced “Mittags-Sau” (Midday Piggy) featuring roast pork dishes is very popular. Those who prefer a vegetarian meal will be equally delighted.
Culinary Treats “Made to Measure”
Augustiner am Dom doesn’t limit itself to menu suggestions. For all kinds of festive events the kitchen team creates a special menu or buffet customized to the wishes of the guests. The hosts Elvira and Peter Schmutzer and the restaurant managers Karin Krahl and Annamaria Szücs ensure the perfect staging of any festivity and fulfill all wishes. With its three floors, the house offers suitable rooms for any event. Every level has its own bar and can be accessed by elevator. Another special feature of the inn is its very own magazine “Peter Schmutzer’s Ess & Trink Geschichten” produced by the innkeeper. This publication features stories about the region and its inhabitants and reveals some tasty secrets from the kitchen.
The central location at the foot of Frauenkirche cathedral, the parlor furnished with enormous attention to detail, the traditional and natural cooking as well as the hard-working and obliging service team make Augustiner am Dom one of the coziest places in Munich.
