Tradition and nostalgia at the Munich Oktoberfest
Oide Wiesn - the historic Oktoberfest
Let's go to the historical part of the Munich Oktoberfest: From September 20 to October 5, 2025, the nostalgic „Oide Wiesn“ takes place in the southern part of the Theresienwiese with historical rides, festival tents and booths. On the separate grounds, visitors experience an idea of what the Oktoberfest was like in times past. Admission costs 4 euros for everyone aged 15 and over.

The beer tents at the Oidn Wiesn
There are several tents at the Oidn Wiesn, each of which promises a unique atmosphere with music and typical Bavarian customs:
- The Schützenlisl®-Volkssängerzelt features a diverse selection of live music from well-known folk singers as well as up-and-coming artists. Presenter Traudi Siferlinger invites you to sing along. Cordiality and tradition define the tent, which celebrated its premiere at the Oidn Wiesn in 2022.
- The Festzelt Tradition focuses on Bavarian customs with beer in steins, brass music and traditional costumes, just like in the old days. Every day, a Bavarian Trachtengau (traditional costume society) takes turns in organizing the program. A central dance floor invites you to dance along. In addition to beer from the wooden barrel, there is a wheat beer garden and stands with Steckerlfisch (fish grilled on a stick).
- The Boandlkramerei welcomef guests to the Oidn Wiesn for the first time in 2024. The music tent clearly focuses on Bavarian folk music, and visitors can look forward to both well-known and new artists.
- The „Museum Tent“ on the other hand, is a veritable treasure trove of Oktoberfest history and displays exhibits from past decades that otherwise lie dormant in the City Museum, including the Wiesn posters. Live music is also offered in this tent and there is a small gastronomy with a beer garden.
Nostalgic rides at the Oide Wiesn
The Oide Wiesn impresses with its nostalgic rides and the reasonable prices. In addition to the carousel „Kettenflieger Kalb“ from 1919 and the round ride „Calypso“, there are classics such as the ship swing and the historic children's carousel. The rides can be enjoyed for 1.50 euros per ride.
You can measure your strength with a hammer at the „Dicke Berta“ (Fat Berta) and test your accuracy at the throwing or shooting booths. In the original Motodrom from 1928, the oldest traveling steep wall in the world, daredevil drivers show their skills on hot machines.
Since 2010 the Oide Wiesn is part of the Oktoberfest: „Oide“ is the Bavarian word for „old“. „Wiesn“ is a Bavarian short form of Theresienwiese meaning „meadow“ (at the beginning of the Oktoberfest in 1810 there was only a meadow). Munich residents therefore do not say they go to the Oktoberfest, but to the „Wiesn".
Children's program at the Oide Wiesn
For children there is a colorful program in the museum tent, from face painting to playful activities. Admission is free, and children can learn a lot about showmanship. The Munich Marionette Theater is also a highlight at the Oidn Wiesn, delighting both young and old. The stage offers a varied program with several performances a day.
